![]() The result of the R&D work done at Supersprint is a set of headers that fits perfectly inside the space available under the hood without invading the wheel arches, with an overall efficiency miles ahead of the OEM components.Ī new set of catalytic converters, large volume 100 CPSI HJS units, used in place of the quadruple ceramic units, and free-flowing, straight through mufflers complete the system via a monumental V8 sound. This is one of the reasons why the 4 into 1, performance proven design used on the Supersprint long tube headers on previous 55 AMG models was set aside in favor of a 4 into 2 into 1 the tri-Y design also proved to be very effective in terms of torque gains in the low rpm range. Matter of fact, you can actually see the headers from the sides of the car, without even removing any cover. However the design freedom of these headers has strong limitations, made by the small space available within the engine bay, and by the proximity of the tires inside the wheel arches to the downpipes. This literally chokes down the engine when under mid and heavy loads. The length of the primary pipes is negligible, as there are very short branches that merge into a the main pipe. The stock exhaust manifolds are extremely restrictive and seriously compromise the power and torque made by this engine the log design is obsolete and the internal diameter is very small, down to 40mm in the 4-1 collector. Back in 2004 Supersprint has developed a set of high performance tubular headers and sports cats for the Mercedes G55 AMG 5.5 V8 Kompressor. ![]()
